Women-serving Organizations

PROGRAM COMPONENTS

RESULTS

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Women experience a disproportionate burden of tobacco-related health consequences and contribute to a priority group for tobacco intervention efforts.

  • Women are consistently less successful at quitting smoking and maintaining long-term abstinence than men.

  • Psychosocial factors place women at higher risk of relapse.

This constitutes an urgent need to build the capacity of women-serving organizations to implement tailored tobacco cessation interventions to address women's tobacco use, support their quit attempts, and prevent relapse.

In PP240005, we propose to implement The WORTH (Women-serving Organizations Rallying for Tobacco-free Health) Program in at least 36 women-serving organizations across Texas over 5 years. This program offers comprehensive support to help organizations create tobacco-free workplaces and enhance their capacity to assist women in quitting tobacco, the leading cause of death and disability in the US. The WORTH Program provides staff education, specialized training, tobacco-free workplace policy guidance, nicotine replacement therapy, health promotion materials, and sustainability recommendations.
